I spoke to author Anna Golfetto about the publication of Together is the Perfect Place, a heart-warming story of feline friendship in which the only thing that truly matters is being together.

What inspired you to write and publish Together is the Perfect Place?

I wanted to share my personal experience of the bond I have with my pets – particularly my cats – and what comforting companions they can be in supporting a person through life. I’m quite shy about my writing so it took a leap of faith to publish – but I decided to go for it as I wanted to pursue an accomplishment outside of my comfort zone. My grandparents worked in a publishing house in Italy so I grew up around books, which was probably the final push I needed.

What was most important to you in our work together?

As English isn’t my native language, I needed a good editor and proofreader as well as support with all the different aspects of book production.

What was your favourite part to write?

The first six chapters of the book. Since I don't know much about Mijou’s first months, I had to be creative and I really enjoyed the process.

Any tips for new cat owners?

Many people think that cats are independent and antisocial, but that is not totally accurate. They do need attention and interaction. It’s important to spend time, play and talk with them to build a strong relationship.

What is your relationship with your cats like now? Any particular challenges?

Well, Mijou is a senior cat; he turned 16. Even if he is still very active and strong, he needs extra care and comforts. For example, he always wants his blanket with him. Pila hasn’t changed much. She is still a kitten at heart and very very needy!

I read the book to them while I was writing it, especially when I needed inspiration. Then, I showed them the printed book. Mijou was the only one interested. He sniffed it and immediately sat on it to claim it!

 Review

I’m very thankful to Claire Wingfield who helped me publish my first novel. Her professional, knowledgeable, and patient guidance has been essential. She took care of proofreading, typesetting, and making the paperback and ebook ready for purchase online. I enjoyed her support during the whole self-publishing process. She also offered very useful advice about book promotion and marketing.

I believe working with a specialist like Claire is essential to achieve a good- and professional-looking product.
